For several weeks leading up to Trinity Medical Center’s appearance before the Alabama State Certificate of Need (CON) Review Board, lights on top of the hospital on Highway 280 glowed red. Newspapers and TV broadcasts reported “Trinity needs a green light!”

On September 15, 2010, CON Review Board members unanimously approved Trinity’s relocation. The community celebrated as the lights on 280 turned to green.

When Brookwood Medical Center and St. Vincent’s Hospital formally asked the CON Review Board to reconsider their decision and conduct another hearing, the CON Board denied their request and the lights stayed green.

Unfortunately, St. Vincent’s and Brookwood then filed lawsuits in the Circuit Court of Montgomery County, and the lights on 280 turned red. Those lawsuits – and the more than 160 legal filings that have followed – have resulted in delays of more than a year, as shown by the time clock on our home page.

Trinity Medical Center remains fully committed to moving forward with construction just as soon as the legal challenges are dropped or defeated in court!
