Q: I thought Trinity received approval from the State to relocate to 280. What is
the
hold up?
Trinity received approval from the State Certificate of Need Board on September 15, 2010. One month later, Brookwood Medical Center and St. Vincent’s Hospital asked for a rehearing by the CON Board and were denied. The hospitals then filed legal challenges in Montgomery Circuit Court to stop Trinity, and the project has been delayed in court for more than a year. The time clock on our home page shows how much time has passed – and how long the residents along the 280 corridor – have had to wait since Trinity was given the green light to relocate.
Q: Once the appeals are dropped or defeated in court, how long before Trinity
can
move in?
Completion of the hospital building and construction of the physician office building and parking deck are expected to take approximately 18 months to complete.
Q: How big is the 280 building?
The building is approximately one million square feet and has 12 stories, five of which are move-in ready. Click here to see a video animation of the completed hospital. You will notice that a physician office building and parking structure will be adjacent to the hospital structure.
Q: How many jobs are associated with Trinity’s relocation?
In just the first year of construction, approximately 3,900 jobs and more than $125 million in job earnings are expected to be generated in the construction and operation of the facility. Learn more about the future jobs and economic impact associated with the development of the Cahaba Center.
Q: How long will it take before you can move in?
First, we must complete the regulatory approval process and obtain our Certificate of Need. Once that is complete, we anticipate that it will take approximately 18 months to complete construction and prepare the hospital to care for patients.
Q: What is this project expected to cost?
The former owners of the hospital spent $215 million on the existing structure; completion of building is expected to require approximately $280 million more.
